NC State Offers Child Care Subsidy Program at KinderCare

Childcare Resources

NC State is now offering its child care subsidy program at 36 KinderCare centers within 30 miles of NC State

The university will pay a percentage of the tuition at those centers for employees who qualify to participate in the program. Tuition rates may vary at KinderCare locations. The new partnership went into effect March 1.

The subsidy program is open to full-time faculty and staff members who classify as SHRA or EPS employees and to postdocs. Those employees, including postdocs, must work at least 30 hours per week for nine or more months per year on a recurring basis to participate in the program.

Eligible NC State employees whose household income is greater than or equal to $70,000 annually will receive an 11% subsidy based on tuition rates at KinderCare centers. Eligible employees whose household income is less than $70,000 annually will receive a 35% subsidy based on tuition rates at KinderCare centers.

In addition to the subsidy, eligible NC State families will receive a 10% tuition discount from KinderCare if their application is approved at a KinderCare location within 30 miles of NC State. The tuition discount and the subsidy equate to a 21% tuition reduction for employees whose household income is greater than or equal to $70,000 annually and a 45% tuition reduction for employees whose household income is less than $70,000 annually.

If you meet the above criteria and would like to participate in the subsidy program, follow the steps below:

  1. To find a KinderCare center for your child to attend, view the table that lists the 36 KinderCare centers participating in the subsidy program. A link for each center’s website is in Column A of the table. On each center’s site, look under Program Availability to see if any child care openings are available.
  2. Complete the North Carolina State University Child Care Program Eligibility & Annual Income Verification Form. Next, fill out the General Benefits Inquiries form in HRNow, choose “Child Care” from the drop-down list at the top of the form and attach the eligibility and income verification form. University Human Resources will let you know whether you are eligible to participate in the subsidy program.
  3. Read this HRNow article to learn more about the program.

NC State employees also can receive discounts at 22 additional Triangle-area child care locations. Some of the centers offer discounts to NC State students. Lightbridge Academy and KinderCare also provide a discount to NC State employees at their locations across the United States.

If you have questions or need more information about the subsidy program or the discounts available at other child care centers, complete the General Benefits Inquiries form in HRNow, and don’t forget to select “Child Care” from the drop-down menu.

NC State understands the importance of reliable, high-quality child care and is dedicated to making it more accessible and affordable for our community. The university encourages all eligible employees to take advantage of the subsidy program or the discounts available at the other child care centers. Together, let’s continue to build a supportive and family-friendly workplace at NC State.
