Reminders About Winter Break and Personal Observance Leave

Here are some important year-end reminders: 

  • NC State will observe winter break Dec. 24-27 and Dec. 30-31. The university will observe the New Year’s holiday Jan. 1, 2025. The university will be closed during winter break and Jan. 1. Employees will receive holiday pay for each day that the university be closed except for Dec. 30. Employees can use annual leave, bonus leave, special bonus leave, comp time or personal observance leave to receive pay on Dec. 30. 
  • Eligible NC State employees can use up to eight hours of paid time off to observe a personal day of significance, including days of religious or cultural importance. Employees’ allotment of personal observance leave for 2024 will expire on Dec. 31. For more information about this leave time, see the list of FAQs on the University Human Resources website.
