Enhance Your Leadership Skills With Level Up With LEAD

Learning and Organizational Development has revamped its leadership development program to make it more engaging and fun.

“Our employees desire a strong professional development program, and we want to ensure we provide one for them,” said Stephanie Davis, assistant director of Learning and Organizational Development. “It helps them to reach some of their career aspirations.”

Learning and Organization Development calls it leadership development initiative LEAD, or Leadership Education and Development. The unit has launched Level Up With LEAD, a certificate-earning program that has three distinct learning levels and offers participants the chance to improve and learn leadership skills while they earn badges and prizes.

What will make Level Up With LEAD exciting for participants is its gamification aspect — the game-playing elements the program organizers have incorporated into the program.

“Gamification is trending in learning and development, so we wanted to incorporate it into our program,”  said Alexa DeFalco, a training specialist.

All NC State employees are welcome to participate in LEAD.

“Leadership has a lot of different forms,” DeFalco said. “All employees on campus are leaders in their own way. That could be because they have an official leadership role or title or are a project or team leader. Regardless of employees’ leadership roles, they can benefit from any of the three levels of learning that LEAD offers.”

The curriculum for each level of LEAD consists of five instructor-led courses, two leadership-related webinars and a curated selection of LinkedIn Learning courses.

Participants have one year from their registration date to complete the requirements within their selected level. Registration is $75 per instructor-led class or $375 per level. Click a link below to register for a level.

Core LEAD – Level 1 offers courses to help participants refresh their foundational leadership and communication skills. Participants will take the following instructor-led courses:

  • Cultivating Your Character Strengths
  • Increase Your Productivity and Find Time for You
  • Develop a Customer-Oriented Approach
  • Collaborating Across Generations
  • Enhancing Interpersonal Communication

LEAD Foundations – Level 2 is for employees who want to develop skills they can use to improve team dynamics. Participants will take the following instructor-led courses:

  • Increase Engagement and Accountability Through Effective Feedback
  • Enneagram: Explore the Nine
  • Communicating Across Styles
  • Overcoming Groupthink With Collaborative Decision Making
  • Building Team Engagement

LEAD Advance – Level 3 offers courses experienced leaders can use to refine and expand their supervisory skills. Participants will take the following instructor-led courses:

  • From Potential to Performance: Leading with Strengths
  • Team Essentials: Creating the Framework for a High-Performing Team
  • Leading Collaborative and Productive Meetings
  • Facilitating Performance Accountability
  • Facilitating Performance Accountability Skill Practice

Learning and Organizational Development encourages participants to complete each level of the program, but you can choose to only complete the levels you think will benefit you most.

“The reason we think this program will be successful is because there’s a level of autonomy,” DeFalco said. “People can engage to the extent they feel comfortable or meet their needs. “Hopefully, they’ll take one level, realize the benefits that can come from that and want to engage in other levels as well.”
