- I grew up in the town of Danvers, Massachusetts, which is actually Old Salem Village, where the witch trials of 1692 occurred.
- I am an Army veteran, having served 32 years. I retired as a colonel in the Signal Corps in 2017.
- I have two golden retrievers who kayak with me. I use a pedal kayak.
- There is a small (6-inch) replica of me in a museum in New York City.
- I have hiked several parts of the Appalachian Trail, including both ends, and would really like to do a through-hike of the entire trail.
