- I’m terrible at growing plants, which disappoints my students in the Department of Horticultural Science, but they try to teach me how. They gave me a mint plant one year, which is supposed to be easy to keep. I killed it in mere weeks.
- I majored in English at NC State, but I’ve been working in the horticultural science department for almost 15 years, mostly in the undergraduate program.
- I like to write fiction. I’ve written many short stories, but I’m currently writing a novel. I have never tried to publish anything, but I’m planning to start a literary empire soon.
- I’m a huge Star Wars fan, including movies, books and comics, and my office is slathered in Star Wars figures, posters, Lego figures, etc. Reading the novels as a kid really solidified my nerdiness.
- I’m from western North Carolina, deep in the Appalachian Mountains, from a little town called Robbinsville. I worked as a river guide on the Nantahala River during the summers when I was a student at NC State.
