Special Life Insurance Enrollment Opportunity: Feb. 14-March 4

As of Jan. 1, Securian Life Insurance Company is the new provider of group term life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment insurance and lifestyle benefits for NC State and other UNC System institutions. You will have a special opportunity Feb. 14-March 4 to enroll in voluntary term life insurance coverage through Securian or increase your current voluntary term life insurance coverage.

For this special enrollment opportunity, employees who are not enrolled in a Securian voluntary term life insurance plan can select:

  • Employee coverage: one to three times your base annual earnings (not to exceed $500,000).
  • Spouse/domestic partner coverage: up to $50,000.
  • Child coverage: $10,000.

If you need more coverage than the amounts above for you and your spouse/domestic partner, you must submit evidence of insurability.

Cost of coverage is less than last year’s plan by approximately 12%. Please go to the University Human Resources website to learn about the coverages available and the cost of each.

As a reminder, if you are already enrolled in Securian’s group term life insurance and/or accidental death and dismemberment insurance, you should review your beneficiary information for accuracy. You can update your beneficiary information by logging into MyPack Portal and following the instructions below:

  • Click “Benefit Details” under Employee Self Service and then select “My UNC Benefits” on the left.
  • Select “Current Benefits” and then “Beneficiaries” on the right-hand side.
  • Click “Add/Edit Beneficiaries” and then “Add New Beneficiary.”
