I served as a health volunteer with the Peace Corps for two years in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania in West Africa. That began my love of travel, which has led me to visit over 50 countries and six continents.
When I’m not working, gardening or cross-stitching, I’m taking care of my live-in elderly parent.
My dream retirement job is to become the owner/manager of a boutique oceanfront inn in Southeast Asia, where I will also bartend on the beach, plan excursions for guests and teach water aerobics classes.
I wrote federal legislation to create a new and innovative early childhood education block grant program. I am proud to say that it passed Congress and was signed into law by President Barack Obama in 2009.
My educational and professional background includes the following: I earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science, a Master of Public Health in public health policy, an international law degree and two graduate certificates in human rights. I have 20-plus years of work experience in gender-based violence.
