Register for a Professional Development Class

To ensure staff and faculty are aware of professional development opportunities that Learning and Organization Development offers, L&OD will highlight some of its Leadership Education and Development classes and other offerings in this newsletter each month. Leading Collaborative and Productive Meetings

  • Class time: Wednesday, Aug. 26, 9-11:30 a.m.
  • Short class description: This session is based on meeting best practices from best-selling author Patrick Lencioni’s book Death by Meetings. Participants will discuss the characteristics of effective and ineffective meetings and review best practices for structuring and implementing the right meeting that aligns with their needs.

Communicating Across Styles

  • Class time: Thursday, Aug. 27, 9 a.m.-noon
  • Short class description: This course helps participants improve their interpersonal communication and collaboration skills in the workplace. You’ll discover your preferred communication style or styles, recognize key behaviors in the communication styles of others and more.

Enneagram: Explore the Nine

  • Class time: Thursday, Sept. 3, 1-3 p.m.
  • Short class description: Join us as we explore the Enneagram, a personality theory that characterizes nine distinct strategies by which the human psyche develops a worldview. We’ll discuss your predominant personality and ways you can activate it in your personal and professional life.

Increase Engagement and Accountability Through Effective Feedback

  • Class time: Thursday, Sept. 11, 9 a.m.-noon
  • Short class description: Feedback is one of the top engagement drivers in the workplace. Learn how to give and receive effective feedback in order to increase engagement and accountability.

Team Essentials: Creating the Framework for a High-Performing Team

  • Class time: Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1-3 p.m.
  • Short class description: The most common team challenges include conflicting goals, ineffective communication and poor planning. This session helps participants identify strategies to enhance their team’s performance.

  • Short class description: You’ll discover your signature strengths and learn how to develop and use them to enhance team collaboration, build resilience and maximize your professional potential.

Facilitating Performance Accountability

From Potential to Performance: Leading With Strengths

  • Class time: Tuesday, Sept. 29, 9-11 a.m.
  • Short class description: This course will begin with an exploration of your top five strengths. Then, we’ll discuss the four basic needs of followers and how to leverage your strengths to fulfill these needs within your team. Finally, we’ll identify key indicators of a high-performing team and delve into the five C’s of strength-based teams.
