Suicide Prevention Month Resources
September is Suicide Prevention Month. Please become familiar with the prevention resources below and support efforts to raise awareness about suicide prevention.
- The World Suicide Awareness Month Toolkit and the World Suicide Prevention Awareness guide offer information about how to prevent suicide and recognize the warning signs.
- If you are thinking about suicide, call or text 988. 988 is a three-digit dialing code that will route callers to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, formerly the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
- If you know of an employee or student at imminent risk of harming themself, contact the NC State Police Department at 919-515-3000 or call 911. You also can complete the Concerning Behavioral Referral form if you are concerned about an employee or student’s behavior.
- In August, NC State launched a mental health and well-being campaign for students and employees called Lighten Your Pack. The campaign has a list of employee-specific resources, including the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program. FASAP offers no-cost counseling services for eligible employees and their household members.
- Staff and faculty interested in opportunities to participate in suicide prevention training can register for a Question, Persuade & Refer class.
