Tours Available for Arboretum, North Campus

The Onboarding Center will host tours of the JC Raulston Arboretum and NC State’s North Campus in October.

Registration is required to go on the tours and will be available Sept. 18. Spots for the tours are limited and are expected to fill up fast. If a tour reaches capacity, you will be added to a waitlist and notified if a spot becomes available.

“We hope you are able to join us in learning more about our great campus,” said Chelsea Nuzum, an Onboarding Center specialist.

JC Raulston Arboretum Tour

JC Raulston Arboretum

The tour of the nationally acclaimed, 10.5-acre arboretum is set for Oct. 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

The botanical garden is located at 4415 Beryl Road in Raleigh. It serves as a laboratory for students and faculty at NC State. The arboretum boasts one of the largest and most diverse collections of landscape plants adapted for landscape use in the Southeast.

Horticulturist J.C. Raulston was the arboretum’s first director. The arboretum was named in Raulston’s honor after his death in 1996.

The arboretum is run by a nonprofit organization that collects 86% of its operating budget through fundraising. It is open to the public seven days a week, and admission is free. Tour participants are being encouraged to make a $5 donation to the arboretum.

Walking Tours of North Campus

Main Campus

Tours of NC State’s North Campus are set for Oct. 17 and Oct. 23 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

North Campus, which is sometimes referred to as “original campus,” includes many of the first academic buildings built at NC State. That part of campus is north of the railroad tracks that run along Yarbrough Drive.

The 1.5-mile walking tours will begin outside Talley Student Union in front of the Starbucks on Cates Avenue. The tours will highlight some of NC State’s history and iconic landmarks, including Reynolds Coliseum, University Plaza, which is known as the Brickyard, and the Court of North Carolina.

If you have questions about the tours or need to arrange accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act, send an email to onboardingcenter@ncsu.edu. Remember to wear weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes on the tours.
