Human Resources Announces 2 New Assistant Vice Chancellors

University Human Resources is pleased to announce the addition of Margaret Erickson and Ursula Hairston — two accomplished HR professionals — to the UHR leadership team.

Erickson joined UHR on Aug. 12 and serves as the assistant vice chancellor for HR Operations. She was the HR project manager and HR group manager for the Shared Services Center at the University of Michigan before accepting her new role at NC State.

Hairston will start in her role as the assistant vice chancellor for HR Strategy in November. She currently serves as the human resources director at the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality. Hairston was the assistant vice provost for equal opportunity at NC State before joining the Department of Environmental Quality.

“I am excited to have Margaret and Ursula join our HR team, and I feel confident that they will provide the proactive leadership and guidance needed to accomplish the operational initiatives outlined in our strategic plan,” said Marie Williams, associate vice chancellor for Human Resources. “They both will bring well-rounded HR skill sets that will help our division to move forward in our transformational journey.”

Erickson’s Role and Educational Background

Margaret will lead the following UHR units:

She is a graduate of Spring Arbor University in Michigan, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in organizational development and a master’s degree in organizational management.

Hairston’s Role and Educational Background

Hairston will lead the following UHR units:

She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology at Wake Forest University and a master’s degree in public administration at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
